Service Description

Note: Not for Cal Fire Applicants! You are required to take our Public Safety First Aid Course (21 hour). This advanced-level training is designed for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of pre-hospital emergency care. It covers more complex medical procedures and prepares participants for real-world emergency scenarios. Just like our Wilderness Firs Aid course, it is designed for outdoor enthusiasts, fishing/outdoor guides, first responders, USFS, NPS, and DWR - we just go a little deeper. This course expands on foundational first aid skills to include techniques specific to remote and wilderness environments. This course is perfect for organizations that send technicians or surveyors into the field where they may have to provide prolonged field care prior to rescue and extrication by EMS. Topics Covered: o CPR and AED usage for adults, children, and infants o Choking management o Use of EpiPens and Narcan o Basics of bleeding control o Recognizing and responding to environmental emergencies o Overview of common medical emergencies o Patient lifting and movement techniques o Basic patient assessment skills o Advanced bleeding control (tourniquets, wound packing, occlusive dressings) o Airway and facial injury management o Musculoskeletal trauma and splinting o Environmental emergencies specific to wilderness settings (altitude sickness, drowning, heat/cold exposure, bites/stings) o Oxygen therapy administration o Use of airway adjuncts o Vital sign assessment and interpretation o Comprehensive trauma assessments o Radio communication and emergency dispatch operations o Patient care reporting and documentation Dress Code: Depending on weather, this course does have outdoor component, so please dress accordingly. Additionally, our advanced bleeding control models have actual blood flow, so wear clothing that can get red dye on it (old work, gardening, or painting clothes is completely fine) What to bring during class: - Notebook and pencil/pen - Water, snacks, and lunch (we will have a 30 minute lunch break during the course) - (Optional): Old shirt you want to cut up for improvised splinting materials or bandages. We will provide some old clothes for you if you don't have any. Certificates earned: - Basic Life Support (American Heart Association). Good for 2 years - Advanced First Aid (HSI). Good for 2 years
